چکیده

We investigate the performance of handoff policies for data services and voice services in a DS-CDMA system with respect to delay sensitivity. A slotted ALOHA random access scheme on the reverse link is employed to support data services. A soft handoff policy, hard handoff policy and restricted-transmission policy for data packets in a soft handoff region are compared in terms of throughput, system delay, and system capacity. The soft handoff policy and the restricted-transmission policy yield better performance than the hard handoff policy. The restrictedtransmission policy yields the highest maximum throughput, but the longest delay among the three handoff policies. Thus, it is useful to restrict packet transmission for delay-insensitive data services in the soft handoff region when the traffic load in a cell is high.

A Handoff Control Scheme Using a Restrictive Transmission for Data Services in DS-CDMA Systems

A handoff control scheme for data services is proposed in DS-CDMA systems. In this scheme delay-insensitive packets originated in a cell border region are restrictively transmitted under the frame-by-frame control of the associated base station using a demand assignment approach. Restricting the transmission of delay-insensitive packets yields a larger link capacity for delay-sensitive and dela...

Admission control scheme for soft handoff in DS-CDMA cellular systems supporting voice and stream-type data services

The soft handoff call requests of real-time services in third-generation (3G) direct-sequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA) and firstand second-generation cellular systems are more important than new call requests from the viewpoint of quality of service (QoS). Rejection of soft handoff requests causes forced termination of an ongoing real-time call, which is a severer problem than bl...

Bit Error Performance for Asynchronous Ds Cdma Systems Over Multipath Rayleigh Fading Channels (RESEARCH NOTE)

In recent years, there has been considerable interest in the use of CDMA in mobile communications. Bit error rate is one of the most important parameters in the evaluation of CDMA systems. In this paper, we develop a technique to find an accurate approximation to the probability of bit error for asynchronous direct–sequence code division multiple–access (DS/CDMA) systems by modeling the multipl...

Performance of Data Services in Cellular CDMA in Presence of Soft Handoff and Packet Combining

Performance analysis of data services is studied in CDMA network in presence of soft handoff (HO) and packet combining. Packet combining in conjunction with soft handoff is found to enhance throughput, reduce delay and packet delay variation (PDV) significantly. A stop and wait automatic repeat request (ARQ) scheme has been assumed. Two different packet combining schemes for packet data service...

Throughput Improvement of STS-Based MC DS-CDMA System with Variable Spreading Factor

The throughput enhancement of Space-Time Spreading (STS)-based Multicarrier Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (MC DS-CDMA) system is investigated in this paper. Variable Spreading Factor (VSF) is utilized to improve the data throughput of the system. In this contribution, an analytical approach is proposed to compute a new expression for the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of t...
